Following are links to various scholarship opportunities for study abroad students. Keep in mind that some scholarship deadlines are up to 18 months prior to the actual period of study abroad. So plan ahead!
Scholarships for Language Students
The Department of Modern Literatures and Cultures (MLC) and the Department of Latin American and Iberian Studies (LAIS) offer both merit and need-based scholarships to UR students who are majoring in a language or enrolled in a language class.
Scholarships are available for summer study abroad as well as for a semester or academic year. Consult the scholarship section of the LAIS website and the MLC website for deadlines and further information.
Arts & Sciences Summer Fellowships and Summer Research Grants
A&S summer fellowships are available annually to support students working on a single research project for either 8, 9, or 10 weeks in the summer. The summer 2010 deadline is February 15, 2010. Awards are available for on- or off-campus research, and off-campus includes study abroad. Stipends are $400/week plus $50/week extra if the student lives on campus (to off-set campus living expenses).
The C. Weinstein Grants are awarded each year through the Office of International Education and are designed to support and foster a wide range of innovative ideas for study/projects that not only will enrich applicants personally, but which will also contribute to campus-wide internationalization efforts. This is a unique award, where all full-time continuing students, faculty, and staff are eligible to apply. The summer 2010 deadline is Jan. 29, 2010.
