20th Anniversary Celebration Events

The celebration of 20 Years of International Education spans the entire 2007-2008 academic year.  One of the highlights of the year of celebration was The Richmond Forum, which took place November 1-3, 2007 and is described below.  Click on the link here to see 20th Anniversary Photos from The Richmond Forum.

The Richmond Forum

Goals

The Richmond Forum was a symposium organized for representatives of University of Richmond exchange partners. The objectives of the symposium were:

  • to identify and discuss the best instruments for creating an international university for the 21st century
  • to expose representatives of UR's partner universities to as many facets of the university as possible
  • to strengthen the University of Richmond's linkages with and among its esteemed partner universities

Wednesday, October 31

    • 7:00 -9:00 p.m.: Welcome dinner (Tobacco Company Restaurant)

Thursday, November 1

    • 8:30 - 9:00 a.m.: Breakfast
    • 9:00 - 10:00 a.m.: Discussion with University of Richmond President Edward Ayers, Rector George Wellde, Jr., and other senior administrators, on creating an international university and international initiatives at the University of Richmond and beyond
    • 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.: Conversation on international issues suggested by Forum Participants
    • 11:00 - 11:30 a.m.: Conversation with Kristin Woods, Director of Alumni Relations, on the role of alumni in building an international university
    • 11:45 - 1:00 p.m.: Networking lunch with University of Richmond faculty to learn about academic departments at UR.
    • 1:15 - 2:15 p.m.: Walking tour of University of Richmond campus
    • 2:30 - 4:15 p.m.: Individual meetings with faculty, staff and departments of interest.
    • 6:00 - 8:30 p.m.: Dinner celebration of 20 Years of Internationalization at the University of Richmond, hosted by the Board of Trustees.

Friday, November 2

    • 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.: Guided bus tour of the city of Richmond
    • 12:00 - 5:00 p.m.: Participation in the annual meeting of the Richmond Council, including lunchtime plenary addresses by Dr. Uliana Gabara, Dean of International Education and President Edward Ayers and breakout sessions on the future of the University of Richmond.  For more information on the Richmond Council, click here.
    • 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.: Global Opportunities: Past, Present, Future - Learn about international study and career opportunities at the Open House offered by the International Office and Career Development Center
    • 7:30 p.m.-10:30 p.m.: Dinner in Carytown (Amici Ristorante)

Saturday, November 3

    • 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.: Optional day-trip to Jamestown and Yorktown, Virginia, which are celebrating America’s 400th Anniversary of the first English settlement in America. For more information about Jamestown and Yorktown, click here.
      5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.: Study Abroad Reunion Happy Hour at Sine Irish Pub (1327 E. Cary Street)
    • 10:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.: African Film Weekend: Films, Lecture and Luncheon, with keynote speaker Dr. Mbye Cham of Howard University
